When Hurricane Matthew first impacted central and eastern North Carolina, hundreds of families were forced from their homes. Today, too many families still struggle to find safe and stable housing. On Saturday, July 29th, fourteen volunteers traveled to Princeville, NC to help repair two homes damaged by Hurricane Matthew. The project was coordinated by NC Catholics Volunteer, a partnership between the Catholic Charities, the Knights of Columbus, and the Diocese of Raleigh. The project was also coordinated with the United Methodist Church, which is the lead agency repairing the homes where volunteers worked. Late in the afternoon on Thursday December 22nd, just 3 days before Christmas, Catholic Charities staff were met with a wonderful surprise. Like something out of a storybook, four boxes of pre-wrapped Christmas gifts were unexpectedly delivered without a note. It was a balmy evening on Friday, July 29th for the Catholic Charities Cans for Charity event with the Carolina Mudcats. This was the second game of the two part “Pitch in for Charity” series that Catholic Charities organized over the summer.
