United in Gratitude: Interfaith Community Lifts Up Centro para Familias Hispanas
On November 24, 2025, the Interfaith Thanksgiving Service at Saint Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church became more than a gathering of shared gratitude. It became a moment of collective action, focused recognition, and tangible hope for families across Wake County through support of Centro para Familias Hispanas, a program of Catholic Charities.
Clergy, congregations, and community members from multiple faith traditions gathered in a spirit of unity, demonstrating that compassion transcends denominations and beliefs. The service reflected a shared commitment to justice, dignity, and care for neighbors, creating a powerful setting for collective generosity.
As part of the service’s longstanding tradition of supporting local non-profit organizations, Centro para Familias Hispanas was invited by Fr. Thomas Simisky, pastor of St. Raphael, to be the featured recipient of the evening’s collection. Attendees heard directly from Maty Ferrer Hoppmann, Program Director for Centro para Familias Hispanas, whose remarks brought the heart of the program forward with clarity and conviction.
Maty shared how Centro para Familias Hispanas has served as a steady presence for families since its beginnings in 1997, offering case management, early education, emergency assistance, and community referrals.
“Through the support of our exceptional volunteers and my dedicated staff, Centro para Familias Hispanas reaches approximately 10,000 individuals each year,” she shared. “You see, we are most human when we are deeply connected to the needs of others. This principle mirrors the very essence of what we are called to do, following the example of Jesus, who loved deeply, felt profoundly, and responded to every need he sensed and saw.”
Following her remarks, members of the interfaith community were given the opportunity to support the work of Centro para Familias Hispanas. The response reflected not just generosity, but trust in a program that continues to meet urgent needs with dignity and speed.
In a room united by faith and purpose, the evening proved that gratitude is most meaningful when it moves people to act.
