A Message of Care and Commitment to Our Immigrant Community
This week, many families in our community experienced fear and uncertainty. Catholic Charities saw fewer families able to visit food pantry locations, not because their need decreased, but because fear kept them from leaving their homes. No family should have to choose between their safety and feeding their children.
The current immigration system is complex, difficult to navigate, and often leaves families in prolonged periods of uncertainty. Through our Immigration Legal Services program, this is something our staff witnesses every day in supporting families who are trying to follow the law, support their children, and build stable lives.
Catholic Charities is grateful for the leadership of the Diocese of Raleigh and the reminder from Bishop Luis that when one part of the community suffers, we all feel the impact. Our hearts are with families navigating fear and uncertainty.
“We pray for an improved system that focuses on creating opportunities rather than spreading fear,” shared Lisa Perkins. “Our vision is for a system that creates a more equitable and accessible path to the American dream for immigrant families like all the immigrants who have come previously and made this country strong.”
