Sauteed Cabbage

Cabbage is cheap, nutritious, and there is always plenty to go around, but I often have a hard time figuring out how to use it beyond coleslaw. This simple recipe is delicious and super easy!

You will need:

  • 1 head of cabbage
  • 1-2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1.5 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1.5 tbsp apple cider vinegar (substitute with another kind of vinegar or lemon if needed!)
  1. Cut the cabbage head in half and cut out and discard the hard core in the middle. Slice each half into thin strips.

  1. Add butter and oil to a large skillet.

  1. Add cabbage, salt and pepper once butter and oil have melted together over medium heat. Don’t worry if it does not seem like all of the cabbage will fit–it will shrink down significantly!

  1. Cook for about 15-20 minutes until browned and soft, stirring occasionally so the cabbage doesn’t burn but allows for crisping and caramelizing

  1. Take off heat and stir in apple cider vinegar

  1. Add extra salt and pepper if needed. Serve with pork, chicken, or another form of protein and maybe some potatoes!
